Answer box

If your supplier won’t share CBAM data, you report using EU default values plus the yearly mark-up: +10 % on 2026 defaults, +20 % on 2027, and +30 % from 2028. Defaults are set conservatively high, so defaults plus mark-up are usually more expensive than real data from an engaged supplier.

The playbook

See the full version in What to do when a supplier won’t send CBAM data. Short version:

  1. Switch channel from English email to WhatsApp in their language.
  2. Explain the cost impact in one sentence.
  3. Offer the Commission template (they can share it with other buyers).
  4. Set a specific deadline, not “soon”.
  5. Escalate to a 15-minute call.
  6. If still nothing, file with defaults + mark-up and send them the difference.
